Be Better

celebrating 9 years of bringing you better black news

Better Black News was birthed from the frustration of negative images of African American people and the politics of conformity.

After gaining a journalism degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, Jillian Bray formerly known as Jillian Whitaker went into the world excited and eager to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a news anchor, but quickly felt that dream slipping through her fingers.

Life changes. Passion doesn’t have to…

Dear viewers,

First of all, thank you for supporting Better Black News since 2015! I cannot believe it’s been that long. Wow! The pandemic kind of threw us for a doozy with a lot of changes and shifts happening with our staff, but we prevailed! With the pandemic causing us to make changes, we did not want or plan to make, this unfortunately caused us to not record any new content since 2020. This ended up being a blessing in disguise. We have to give a special shout out to Flourish OKC’s DUO Fund for awarding Better Black News a $7,000 grant. This new season would not have been possible without them. We can’t wait to release our new season for you! Are you ready?
